In recent years COLTO has seen a shift in focus, from removing IUU fishing for toothfish from sovereign waters to promoting the remarkable story that has seen many of our fisheries now being independently certified as sustainble.
At this year’s AGM it was decided to revise our mission statement to:
– promote sustainable toothfish fishing and fisheries;
– facilitate its Members working together and with others, including through continued provision of high quality scientific data to CCAMLR; and to
– provide effective representation for its Members.
COLTO’s previous mission statement was developed in 2010 and read:
– to promote the legal and sustainable fishing and fisheries of members both nationally and internationally;
– to facilitate members of the Association working with each other, governments, conservation groups and the general public to eliminate IUU;
– to be a not for profit powerful international alliance of legal toothfish operators;
– to represent the legal toothfish industry to ensure its members have a viable economic future in the industry;
– to inform the public that there are legitimate, sustainable, toothfish fisheries selling product into markets around the world; and
– to provide effective representation and input at international toothfish management and scientific meetings.
