Today at the Seafood Expo North America 2014 in Boston, COLTO gave away this replica toothfish (Chilean Sea Bass) cast to lucky winner Travis Matthews from Woburn, Massachusetts.
This fiberglass cast of a Patagonian Toothfish (Dissostichus eleginoides) was modeled on a 13kg specimen, caught within the Australian Exclusive Economic Zone in the Heard Island & McDonald Islands (HIMI) Patagonian Toothfish Fishery.
Heard Island is formed around the highest volcano in Australian territory, called Big Ben, and is found at Latitude 53°06’ South, Longitude 73°31’ East.
Toothfish are also commonly known as Chilean Seabass, and this particular fish was caught by the Australian flagged fishing vessel “ISLA EDEN”, IMO number 9111694 on the 8th June 2013. The Isla Eden is owned and operated by Austral Fisheries, an inaugural COLTO member and proud supplier of sustainable toothfish products.
The HIMI Toothfish fishery was independently certified as sustainable by the Marine Stewardship Council in 2012, and is audited annually to ensure the fishery remains sustainable and well managed.
